High Grade Success!
Longley Park students were celebrating their achievements today. 16-19 year olds at the College attained an impressive 97% Advanced Level pass rate, with 377 A*/A grades or equivalent being awarded and 45% of students achieving high grades. A stunning 65% of students taking BTEC courses achieved the very highest grades.
The College was recently recognised as one of the best colleges in the country for A Levels. National Achievement Rate Tables confirm that the College is in the top 5% of all colleges nationally for A Levels, the highest in the Sheffield City Region and the fifth highest of all sixth form colleges nationally, ahead of Greenhead, Hills Road and Rochdale.
Principal, Mo Nisbet commented on the success: “I am extremely proud of the work that has gone on in College to secure fantastic results for another year. This excellent academic achievement shows that sixth form provision in the North East of the city is among the very best in the country. On behalf of the staff at Longley Park, I would like to wish our students the very best for the future.”
Celebrating his results this week is student Daniel Marshall. Following two years of study at Longley Park, Daniel has achieved A and A* grades in A Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Daniel will now go on to study Computer Science with Mathematics at the University of Sheffield.
Since opening in 2004, thousands of students from Longley Park Sixth Form College have progressed onto study a wide range of subjects at universities across the country. Vice Principal Donald Mclean said: “A record number of students have applied to study at University again this year and have secured their places after achieving the grades they needed.” He attributes the success to the high aspirations, hard work and commitment shown by students throughout the year and to the support and dedication provided by teachers.
