The Guidance Centre
We are very proud of our spacious Guidance Centre, which is well stocked with the latest information on higher education, gap year, funding, scholarships, apprenticeships and general careers information. As well as the connexions resource library we also have PCs with interactive careers programmes and internet links to a virtual array of careers and higher education resources. Our Careers & Progression Manager Phil Nelson, and Laura Gibbons Information and Guidance Officer, have many years of experience in supporting young people to achieve their goals.
Advice and support is available all year round aiming to help our students with any issues that affect their personal welfare and become barriers to their future aspirations. Careers and educational guidance remains very much at the centre of our ethos.
This is further enhanced by the careers education delivered by the guidance team and progress tutors in the comprehensive tutorial programme. A series of events, visits and conferences are also available for our students to take part in. We invite guest speakers from occupational areas and universities. We also offer CV and application workshops. We run coach trips to university open days and UCAS conferences as well as organising our own higher education conference aimed at involving both students and parents.
This does not stop with our existing students. We also make an offer of guidance and support to anyone who leaves college. All ex-students will be able to come and see an adviser, use the resources and apply for university and we will provide them with an academic reference. We will also help ex-students apply for employment and training.
Since opening in 2004 over 650 students have progressed onto Higher Education with a further 260 students applying for 2009 entry.
We are the first school / college in Sheffield to gain the Sheffield Careers Standard which incorporates the new national standard for Information and Guidance.
