These are courses that take up the whole of your timetable. Each Extended Diploma is the equivalent of 3 A Levels and can be used for university entry as well as for job applications. There is a strong emphasis on coursework with some external testing. These are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
In your first year you will complete the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma qualification, which is the equivalent of 1 A Level, before moving on to complete the full Extended Diploma in your second year.
You will study different types of businesses and how they operate. Examples from real businesses will be used wherever possible and you will take part in practical activities.
You will study nine units in the first year and nine units in the second year. This will be made up of core and optional units.
These are some of the areas you will study:
• The business environment
• Business resources
• Business communication
• Human resources
You will need at least 4 GCSEs at A*-C (grade 9-4). You will normally need at least a grade C/4 in English Language and Maths. Non-GCSE qualifications like BTEC Level 2 in a related area can count towards this total, but we will also look at your overall academic profile.
The course contains a lot of written work, so you will need to be able to demonstrate confidence in writing through a grade C/4 in English Language or a related subject. An ability to work with figures will be useful as elements of the course cover mathematical and accounting theory and practice.
Assessment is carried out by a series of assignments which are marked by your teachers. This will include reports, case studies, presentations and practical assessments.
