These courses will appeal to students who have previous language experience at GCSE, or who have existing language skills.
You will be encouraged to extend your language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and understand and communicate information and opinions about topical issues in the target langauge. Courses will involve a range of teaching and learning activities, with the latest IT resources supporting your studies.
We hope to offer the following languages at Advanced level: French and German.Urdu, Arabic and Spanish are also available at AS only as twilight courses.
If you already have a good knowledge of another language you will probably be able to take an exam in it. Previous students have taken exams in Dutch, Persian, Russian and Turkish. If you have an interest in another language, please indicate this on your application form.
This course will appeal to students who have a general interest in law and current affairs and enjoy discussion and debate. The course will give you an insight into the British legal system, and an understanding of the way in which the law influences our daily lives.
You will have the opportunity to visit courts in session and take part in discussions with guest speakers from a range of legal professions. You will be involved in research using newspapers, journals and the internet. The skills you will develop on the course, such as being able to see both sides of an argument, effective research skills and solving complex legal problems will be of value to you in other areas of life. Most students will not have studied Law before as few Schools offer the subject at GCSE, and the course is designed to introduce you to the subject.
