Performing Arts BTEC First Diploma

This is a practical course which will allow you to build up your own performance skills and find out about working practices and employment opportunities in the Performing Arts.

Classes will take place in a specialist performance space, and you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.

Performing Arts BTEC National Award

This practical course is ideal if you have an interest in the acting side of Performing Arts, and can be studied alongside a range of other courses. The qualification is the equivalent of one A level.

You will develop your individual knowledge and acting skills, through workshops, devising and developing performances and working from texts to develop full productions. Group projects are a key part of the course, and you will learn about up to date working practice within the Performing Arts. Classes will take place in a specialist performance space.

You will have the opportunity to perform in a range of projects, from Touring Shows, Film and Radio Acting and full-scale Theatre Productions, and take part in theatre trips and professional workshops.

This full-time practical course will suit you if you wish to go on to work in the Performing Arts or study this area at a higher level. You will develop your individual knowledge and skills, through workshops, devising and developing performances and working from texts to develop full productions. Group projects are a key part of the course, and you will learn about up to date working practices within the industry. Classes will take place in a specialist performance space.

You will have the opportunity to perform in a range of projects, from Touring Shows, Film and Radio Acting and full-scale Theatre Productions, and take part in theatre trips and professional workshops.  The main emphasis of the course is drama but there will be an element of movement and/or dance.

Photography AS/A2

This course will appeal to students who are interested in developing their creative skills in photography. You will learn both digital and traditional techniques including how to develop your own film, create prints from your own negatives and use Photoshop to manipulate digital images. You will also look at the work of other photographers and learn how to analyse and evaluate images using specialist terms and vocabulary.

You will have access to a specialist dark room, cameras and digital facilities.

There will be the opportunity to visit galleries and museums during the course.

Physical Education AS/A2

This course is ideal for anyone who is interested in finding out more about the factors that influence physical education and whether or not people take part in sport. You will look at physical aspects of fitness and performance such as the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system and training methods. You will explore the effects of psychological influences such as teaching and learning theory and relaxation techniques on performance. You will also consider the ways that influences such as family and social background and the availability of facilities and financial support impact on an individual's sporting development.

The practical component to the course involves planning, performing and evaluating performance as a player and/or official or leader.

You will discover and analyse what psychologists have found out about key issues such as the structure of memory, the functions of dreams, the cause of eating disorders and the development of cognitive skills.

This course combines fascinating content with scientific rigour and combines equally well with science, arts or humanities subjects.

Public Services BTEC First Diploma

This course is designed to give you an understanding of further study and employment opportunities in the police, fire and ambulance services, armed forces, customs and excise or prison services.

You will develop your knowledge of the Public Services, including entry requirements and working practices. You will also begin to develop the skills you need for a career in this area, and take part in teamwork exercises. There will also be compulsory visits, trips and practical activities which will allow you to make informed decisions about future careers.
