This picture shows students from from Longley Park Sixth Form College at work filming in an unused wing of the Northern General Hospital, as part of a film project, Joyride? commisioned by South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield Futures.
The students involved were keen to use real locations, as the video is being produced to a professional standard, with a high level of realism. As BTEC National Diploma students the project is a great opportunity for them to be working in a real context, and dealing with all the challenges of filming on location.
With help from PC Alan Hancock, a college governor, we've also filmed in police cells; had a scene with real police acting a chase; and a local Funeral Directors have helped us film a scene using their undertakers loading a hearse with a coffin (an empty one)!
The educational DVD resource, which includes a dramatic reconstrucion of the consequences of car-crime, is launched at college June 10th. 170 people have booked to attend, including the mayor and the artist Joe Scarborough. One thousand copies have been produced, and it will have national distribution, through police and educational institutions.
