Annual Creative Show
Transitions Art Exhibition
An exhibition of work from some of the finest young artists in the city took place in Sheffield City Centre. The ‘Transitions’ exhibition at Bank Street Arts showcased work from artists studying at Longley Park Sixth Form College.
The exhibition included a range of art disciplines including Art, Media, Photography, Graphics, 3D Design and Textiles, from students studying both A Level and UAL courses here at Longley Park.
Demi Saunders, who studied UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design was really excited that her work has been chosen for the exhibition. She said; “It was a real achievement for me. After being chosen from a number of people I was really proud that I got the chance to have my work displayed in an exhibition.”
The end of year pieces on display were the result of projects where students have pursued themes including Identity, Light and Dark, and Organic. Demi’s inspiration behind her final piece came from professional Artist, Sam Peacock after he visited the College. For her project Demi decided to choose the theme Distress and Decay, working with aluminium background after experimenting with different materials.
Included in the exhibition was a series of short films and music videos, fashion pieces inspired by the 19th century, highly detailed drawings on found wood, abstract landscapes, portrait photography and handmade books. The pieces demonstrated the high level of skill involved in creating such thought provoking artwork as well as the independence, risk-taking and imagination of the artists involved.
