Information for students - Arrangements after October half term

Hi everyone

As we come to the end of the first half term I wanted to say ‘thank you’ for how well you have coped with the very different way that we have had to work this year.  You have responded really maturely to the social distancing and hygiene measures we need to have in place to keep the building safe, and the atmosphere in the Sixth Form has been calm, positive and hard-working.  We are very proud of you all.

There are a couple of really important developments that I would like to tell you about.

Timetables

We know that students and teachers would like more face-to-face lessons in the Sixth Form.  From Tuesday 10th  November we will be increasing the number of lessons on-site.  Timetables will be updated, and some of the sessions which have been Remote Learning will change to being on-site.   You will be able to check your timetables on Cedar during Week Beginning 2nd November so that they know when they will be coming in to the building.  There will still be some Remote Learning, but this will be reduced.

In order to make sure that we can increase lesson time in the Sixth Form safely, we need to limit the numbers in the building at any time.  This means that we will have to ask students who have finished their lessons to go home.  You will still be able to book time in the Independent Learning Centre to use the IT resources, but you should only do this on days that you have lessons on-site.

Hygiene measures and social distancing will remain in place.  Please remember that these arrangements are so that we can keep students, staff and the wider community safe!

GCSE Examinations

During the week after Half Term (week beginning 2nd November up to Monday 9th November), we have over 450 students taking GCSE Examinations in English and Maths.  In order for us to manage these exams safely we will be suspending all on-site lessons and all sessions will be Remote Learning during this time.

This means that you should not come in to the Sixth Form unless they have:

  • A GCSE Examination
  • A booked place on a Maths or English revision session
  • A 1:1 discussion with your Academic Tutor about UCAS

On-site lessons, with the new timetable arrangements, will start on Tuesday 10th November.

Thank you again – have a great half term!

With very best wishes

Mo
