English Language - A Level - 2 years

This is a course for inquisitive students, for students who want to know why we communicate in the way we do. The English language is fascinating to study. There are so many ways in which we use it - to empower or control, to express feelings and emotions, to develop bonds and shared experiences. If you want to look beyond the words at the use of language in all its contexts then this is the course for you!

Our A Level English Language students follow the AQA specification. There are four units which cover a wide range of different topics including Language, the Individual and Society, which includes learning how children develop language skills, Language diversity and change - how language evolves over time, and Language in Action - an independent study of language in a chosen context.

Since 2018 our English Language students have had the opportunity to work closely with journalists from the national press as part of the Mirror Youth Project. This has involved conducting interviews with the police as well as high profile politicians and sports stars. 

A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.
