5 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (A*-C) including English + Maths
A Level Religious Studies provides students with the opportunity to debate the very biggest of questions. Does God exist? How do we know what is right and wrong? Where did the universe come from? If you are a student who likes to grapple with big ideas then Religious Studies gives you the perfect opportunity for debate, reflection and exploration.
Our A Level Religious Studies students follow the Edexcel specification. There are three modules covering ethics, philosophy and Islam. You will consider philosophical and ethical perspectives of belief from a range of different positions, developing skills in interpretation, analysis and critical thinking.
Our students benefit from a close partnership with both Sheffield universities and are able to take part in tailored lectures and seminars to support their studies as well as visits to the university campuses to gain an insight into learning at HE institutions.
RS students have also enjoyed the opportunity to meet local faith leaders and to discuss and debate key issues with them.
A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.
Examination
An A Level in Religious Studies is really useful for studying wider Humanities, English and Social Science subjects at university, such as history, sociology, politics, law, anthropology and philosophy. The course develops analytic, interpretation and argument skills. Also, having a contextual understanding of alternative world perspectives provides a solid grounding when it comes to interpreting wider academic theory and concepts. As such, these skills, and the wider understanding of moral issues, can be particularly useful for students keen to study medicine, caring and the media. Ultimately, having a deeper understanding of the world demonstrates an ability to be tolerant and empathetic to those within society, which is very attractive to prospective employers in the future.
