Standard Level 3 vocational entry requirements apply. The minimum requirement is at least five GCSEs at Grade 4 OR at least 3 GCSE subjects at Grade 4 alongside alternative GCSE equivalent requirements. You will need to achieve Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths, English and Science for this course. If the subject applied for has been taken previously, then at least a Grade 4 at GCSE or Merit at BTEC or OCR Level 2 is required.
This is a broad-based course designed for anybody who is keen on Sport and wishes to pursue a career within the Sports, Leisure and Services industries.
It is a very active programme combining academic study with a range of practical and assignment-based activities. This holistic Sport course analyses aspects of developing coaching, fitness and health and explores various pathways to a career within Sport.
You will cover a number of areas including:
Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
Sports Leadership
Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing
Coaching for Performance
Practical Sports Performance
Application of Fitness Testing
Research Methods in Sport
Skill Acquisition
There will also be opportunities to gain additional qualifications including the Community Sports Leaders’ Award (CSL2) and a Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership (HSL). On successful completion, you may choose to enter employment in sports centres, leisure centres or outdoor activities centres.
Coursework/Practical/External Assessment
Many of our students progress onto the BSc (Hons) Degree in Sports Coaching and Exercise Science at Selby College, enter employment or apply for university to study Sports Studies, Leisure Management, Recreation Management or Teacher Training.
On successful completion, you may choose to enter employment in sports centres, leisure centres or outdoor activities centres.
