Overview

You'll explore the contexts of the texts you're reading and deepen your understanding of the changing traditions of literature in English.  The course features a fascinating mix of texts from across the genres.

Details

You will read, discuss, analyse and write about a wide range of literature. You will develop your critical skills and learn how to present your ideas effectively.  You will read widely and independently, engage creatively and apply your knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation in speech and writing.

Themes covered using different literary genres and periods are:

  • Tragic Drama : Othello - William Shakespeare, A Streetcar Named Desire - Tennessee Williams
  • Prose : Theme : Science and Society - Frankenstein - Mary Shelley, Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
  • Poetry : The Romantic Poets, Contemporary Poetry
  • Coursework Essay : A thematic comparison of two texts of your own choice



 A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.

How will it be delivered?

There are three exam units which are assessed at the end of the second year. You will also produce a coursework essay which is worth 20% of the qualification.
