GCSE and A Level grades calculation update - 5th April 2020

You may have seen in the news that Ofqual, the organisation that looks after examinations across the country, has issued some information about how GCSE and A Level grades will be calculated this year.

We are looking carefully at this and will send out more detailed information early next week.

Although there hasn't yet been an announcement about BTEC grades we believe the process will be very similar, and we will let you know about this as soon as we can.

We will also be reviewing how we support students for the rest of the academic year in the light of the Ofqual guidance.  Your teachers will be in touch in the next week or so to let you know.
Please continue to keep yourself and your loved ones safe by following the Government guidance:  Stay at home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives

With best wishes

Update for all students - 24th March 2020

Dear all

I hope that you are well and adapting to the new way of working.  These are very strange times, and it is really important that we follow the rules set by the Government and keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

Yesterday the Government significantly changed their advice on 'social distancing'.  They are now recommending that everyone remain in their home and only go out

  • for one form of exercise per day (walking, running, cycling) alone or with people they live with
  • to attend work if it is impossible to work from home
  • to attend medical appointments
  • to buy food

The reason for this is to limit the number of people we all come into contact with to protect everyone from Coronavirus.  It is important that anyone who does leave the  house stays at least 2 meters (6 feet) away from others.  Advice on washing hands regularly is still very important.

In line with Government requests to limit social contact, Longley Park Sixth Form will be closed completely from 1.30 today until further notice.  However, students in urgent need of support can access facilities at one of the Academies in our Trust:

Hinde House Primary Phase, Bracken Road, Sheffield, S5 6FH .

Please note that you should only access these facilities if you are unable to remain at home safely.

I know that we are all missing friends and colleagues at the moment.  Make sure that you keep safe and well and keep in touch with teachers through Cedar and Google.

With very best wishes

Mo

Support for students

You Can Still Be SocialThe official phrase is "social distancing," but it can help to think of it as "physical distancing" instead. We can still be social, just in different ways. Take advantage of social media and video apps to support each other, laugh together, and take care of each other until the virus is under control.

We know that things may feel overwhelming at the moment so here’s a few helpful services that are still operating

Please see the letter below from the Principal regarding Sixth Form closure and how we will proceed. Also below is a link to information regarding key worker government guidance

Important information for future students - 19th March 2020

Dear future student

We know that you will have seen the Government’s announcement that schools and colleges will be closed from tomorrow until further notice.  The government has also said they will cancel all formal examinations due this summer.  They are working with the exam boards to make sure that "every pupil gets what they deserve and is not unfairly penalised."

We want to reassure you that Longley Park Sixth Form has reserved a place for you in September.  If you have already come in to the Sixth Form for an interview you will already have an offer.  If you have not yet had an interview we will write to you in the next few days confirming that we are offering you a place. We will discuss course choices with you when you come in for enrolment.

If you haven’t applied to us yet you can still do this online either through Sheffield Progress or our website https://www.longleypark.ac.uk/

We will reserve you a place and discuss your course choices with you at enrolment.

It is really important that you continue to study and follow the advice from your teachers.  Even if you do not have to take examinations this year you need to carry on learning so you are well prepared for your next steps.  Remember, you need to keep working on Project You so you can achieve all your goals in the future!

We know that you will have lots of questions and we will keep updating our website.  As all schools and colleges will have very few staff on site, please use websites for information and avoid telephoning schools if you can.

Look after yourself, your friends and your family by following the Government’s advice https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19

With very best wishes

Mo Nisbet

Principal

Guidance for students - 18th March 2020

We have taken the decision that Sixth From will be suspending lessons from today (Wednesday 18th March 2020) until further notice. The Sixth Form will be open however for you to come in to print and collect resources.

Your teachers have been preparing online learning over the past few days and work is now available for you to access online. Individual teachers will have told you where you can access online resources for your subjects, how you can complete and submit work for assessment and feedback and how you can contact them using Google Classroom, your Sixth Form email account, or CEDAR.

If you have or will have difficulty accessing online resources from home and have not yet let your teachers know, please do so as soon as possible. We will endeavour to make arrangements to get the work to you.

You will be expected to work from home during your timetabled lessons. This is important for your teachers to be able to contact you and discuss ongoing work arrangements. Therefore please check your emails regularly, as well as Google Classroom. If you are too ill to work, please contact your teacher and tutor via CEDAR or email.

If you have assignments that are due for submission, please complete these as normal unless directed otherwise. You should adhere to the dates specified and submit them to your teachers via Google Classroom or email. If assignments are handwritten, scan or take photographs of the work and email/share on Google classroom where possible.

The safety and well-being of our staff and students is our number one priority and we understand that you will have many questions in this period of uncertainty. We will share information with you as soon as we have it, so please do continue to check the website and your emails for further information.
