The Applied Science AAQ is a Level 3 single qualification designed for students who are interested in how science is used in real‑world settings such as industry, healthcare, laboratories and environmental science but want to combine this with other level 3 courses.
The course places a strong emphasis on practical, hands‑on learning, helping students understand how scientific knowledge is applied in professional contexts. Alongside developing core knowledge across biology, chemistry and physics, students build valuable skills in investigation, data analysis, problem‑solving and scientific communication.
Students study a range of applied science units that develop both scientific knowledge and practical skills. Units focus on how science is used in professional and industrial settings.
Typical units may include:
Core principles of applied Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Scientific principles and techniques
Science investigation skills.
The course is delivered through a mixture of exams and assignments.
Assessment is made up of:
Externally assessed units (1 exam in each of the Sciences)
Internally assessed coursework units, including laboratory investigations, reports and written assignments
Assessment is spread throughout the course with a balance of coursework and exams throughout.
University courses such as biomedical science, medical science, environmental science, nursing or allied health professions
