The Medical Science AAQ is a Level 3 Applied Advanced Qualification designed for students with an interest in healthcare, laboratory science and biomedical science. It offers a practical and applied approach to learning science, focusing on how scientific knowledge is used within medical and healthcare settings.
This course develops a strong understanding of biological and medical science alongside practical laboratory skills, data analysis and investigative techniques, helping students prepare for further study or careers in science and healthcare.
Students will study a range of applied science and medical science units, which may include:
Principles of medical science and human biology
Scientific investigation and laboratory techniques
Disease, diagnosis and treatment
The course is delivered through a mixture of exams and assignments.
There are two unitised exams distributed through the two-year course.
For coursework‑based units students will be assessed through laboratory reports, investigations and written assignments.
University courses such as biomedical science, medical science, nursing or allied health professions
Higher or degree apprenticeships in healthcare, laboratory science or related fields
Employment in science or healthcare support roles
