Overview

Mathematics is one of the most well respected subjects that you can study at A Level. It can open the door to a plethora of university courses and apprenticeship programmes. If you are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, finance or business A Level Mathematics can help you to achieve your goals.

To be successful in any A Level it is very important that you have a strong work ethic. Algebra is the topic that underpins A Level Mathematics, so it is important that you have strong algebra skills. It is also important that you enjoy problem solving and have the resilience to try again if your first attempt does not lead you to the solution.

Details

In this course you will study Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. Two thirds of the course is Pure Mathematics, this will extend your knowledge of topics such as algebra, proof, sequences and series, coordinate geometry and trigonometry. You will also learn new concepts such as calculus and exponentials and logarithms. Statistics will build on and extend your data and probability knowledge and will introduce statistical distributions and hypothesis testing. Mechanics is the application of pure mathematics to everyday events; it concerns the way that forces interact and the motion they cause.

In addition to taught sessions students have the opportunity to take part in the UK Maths challenge, attend the ‘Maths Inspiration’ events, participate in lectures by University staff and discover some Maths around ‘who I share my Birthday with’!

A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.
